In June 2025, Governor Greg Abbott joined regional leaders at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum to announce a historic $123 million state appropriation supporting infrastructure development for The Beacon. The investment, approved by the Texas Legislature and signed into law by Governor Abbott, will fund critical roads, utilities, and public infrastructure designed to support long-term healthcare, education, and economic growth in the Midland-Odessa region.
During the announcement, Governor Abbott described the investment as “a defining moment for the Permian Basin” and emphasized the importance of strengthening healthcare access in one of the nation’s most economically significant regions. The funding supports infrastructure tied to future medical facilities, research partnerships, higher education opportunities, and community development projects planned as part of The Beacon’s multi-phase vision.
The appropriation represents a major step forward for The Beacon and reflects years of collaboration among the Permian Strategic Partnership, Scharbauer Foundation, healthcare systems, university partners, and state leaders. Planned improvements include Innovation Boulevard, a central park, and major roadway infrastructure that will help establish The Beacon as a regional hub for healthcare, education, and innovation for generations to come.
