Regional leaders, healthcare providers, and community partners gathered in May 2026 to celebrate the grand opening of the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center (PBBHC), a transformative new facility designed to expand access to mental and behavioral healthcare across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. The 200-bed center marks a major milestone not only for behavioral health services in the region, but also for the broader vision of The Beacon.

Developed through a collaborative public-private partnership involving Midland Memorial Hospital, Medical Center Hospital, PermiaCare, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, the State of Texas, and more than 150 private donors, the facility was created to address one of the region’s most urgent healthcare gaps. The center will provide inpatient and outpatient care for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, along with crisis stabilization, intensive outpatient programming, and expanded psychiatric services.

Leaders across the Permian Basin described the opening as a defining moment for regional healthcare and a powerful example of what collaboration can achieve. As the first major facility associated with The Beacon vision, the PBBHC demonstrates the region’s commitment to building long-term healthcare capacity closer to home—improving quality of life and strengthening the future of the Permian Basin.
